Russia won the right to host the world cup 2018, but there were other European countries who placed bids for the hosting rights. Africa hosted the 2010 world cup, Brazil hosted the 2014 world cup, so it was time that a European country came out and won the rights. There were some Europeans countries that tried to do a repair of 2002 world cup when there were two hosts Japan and Korea the following European countries placed the bid it was Belgium and Netherlands. England receive zero votes Belgium and Netherlands receiving two votes, Spain and Portugal receiving 7 votes with Russia receiving thirteen votes and it was announced that Russia did win the rights to host 2018 world cup
